Last night, yes on a Tuesday night, the UFC held an event in Fairfax, Virginia. All in all the card was very good. Some spectacular finishes, and a five round main event. Just as most Fuel and FX cards, there wasn’t a ton of big names, but these little known fighters put on a show. Here is a breakdown of the biggest winners and losers.

At times, Tom Lawlor has either been fantastic or just a meh fighter. Last night Lawlor faced Jason MacDonald. Going into the fight people weren’t sure who had the edge. Neither fighter is known for having scary stand up, but Tom came out and blasted MacDonald, to end the fight with – in the first minute. I can see the UFC matching Tom up with either Ronny Markes, or Francis Carmont next.

After a very poor showing in his last fight, Donald Cerrone came out to prove a point. No he didn’t finish his opponent, but he did dominate him from bell to bell. Cerrone is one of the best kickboxers in the UFC, and he showed it last night. Stevens just looked lost against Donald. He couldn’t put together anything. Cerrone was chopping at his legs, and mixing up his strikes, with great precision. Cerrone has now won 4 of his five fights in the UFC, and would love to get another shot at Nate Diaz. I don’t think the UFC will make that fight yet, but I do see it happening soon. What I do see is that the UFC has many

options. They could give Cerrone the winner of Maynard/Guida, or Anthony Pettis. They may even go with Jim Miller. Cerrone won’t have to sit for very long, since the light weight division is one of the deepest in the UFC.

Finally the biggest winner from last night was Jung Chan-Sung, who was coming off a super quick KO of Mark Hominick. Sung and Poirier put on a great fight, they had everything, big strikes, big take downs, and superb ground defense. Sung was just a bit better in each aspect. The fourth round submission win earned him SOTN and they both earned FOTN. Sung called out current champion Jose Aldo, for his next opponent. As much as this fight makes the most sense, Aldo does already have an opponent. So Sung will have to wait.

Every MMA fan I talk to gripes about “boring” fighters and fights. Well, the UFC has fixed this matter, yet no one seems to realize it yet. So let me tell you the solution to the “boring” problem……FLYWEIGHTS!

That’s right I said it, flyweights! The lightest weight class in the UFC contains the most explosive fights and fighters that NEVER bore. Since many fight fans didn’t even know this division existed, I am here to help show you what you have been missing. Let us start with the introduction to some of the premiere fighters of the flyweight division.

Joseph Benavidez- Many know Benavidez from the WEC, he is considered one of the best bantamweights in the sport. His only two career losses have both come via close decision to Dominick Cruz, with his most notable wins being over Eddie Wineland, Jeff Curran, and Miguel Torres. Benavidez provided TONS of fireworks at 135 pounds, his move to flyweight at 125 pounds can only add more charge to his explosive striking and make him a serious contender to be a dominant flyweight champion.

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse”Johnson- Another small fighter who was out of his element at bantamweight, was Demetrious Johnson. Although Johnson was considered to be a “tiny bantam”, he still managed to rack up a record of 5-2-1 under the Zuffa banner. His only losses were his WEC debut (a decision loss to Brad Pickett) and a recent bout with a far bigger Dominick Cruz, whom the much smaller Johnson took to war for 5 rounds losing a decision. His first flyweight bout however, made us all gush at the potential of this division. Johnson faced Ian McCall in the UFC’s first ever flyweight bout…That bout put this division on the map as both men pushed a frantic pace for three rounds, in a

match scored a majority draw. A rematch is expected to take place in June with the winner getting a title shot, expect another classic.

John Dodson- The first bantamweight to win the Ultimate Fighter brings a barrage of offense to the flyweight division. Although Dodson is new under the Zuffa banner with only 2 fights, they are both wins. Dodson won the TUF finale via TKO at bantamweight, then five months later, he dropped to flyweight to face Tim Elliot. Dodson and Elliot went to a decision that had everything from cartwheels to evasive rolls and somersaults and was set at such a frantic pace you were afraid to blink. Expect Dodson to be one of the most innovative fighters in this division and possibly the entire UFC.

Louis Gaudinot- People see Gaudinot and think “Who’s this guy with the green hair?” When in reality, they should know he is one of the gamest fighters in the promotion. Gaudinot holds an impressive 6-2 record, with his only losses coming against bigger fighters. Gaudinot stands only 5’3 and at bantamweight was facing men much taller, sometimes standing as tall as 5’10. Gaudinot is in his natural weight division now, and will be one to watch.

Ian McCall- Many people save the best for last…I did the same. As

one of the sport’s most interesting fighters, Ian McCall loves the spotlight. Known for his “villianous” moustache and unusual nickname, “Uncle Creepy”, McCall is without a doubt at the top of my list for #1 flyweight in the world. McCall holds an 11-2-1 record, is only losses were in WEC to Dominick Cruz and Charlie Valencia at bantamweight. After going 8-2 at bantamweight, McCall found his home at 125 and hasn’t been beaten since 2009. Since the move to flyweight, McCall has beaten then #1 ranked Jussier da Silva in McCall’s division debut and has gone 3-0-1 as a flyweight. That draw was the fight against Demetrious Johnson, which McCall will be getting his rematch for on June 8, 2012 to determine the flyweight’s #1 contender. As for the nickname, it kind of just stuck as McCall stated “One of my best friend’s sons called me uncle creepy one night instead of uncle Ian.I can definitely see how people could have a negative outlook on it, but once they get to know me, they will see it’s a joke.” When I asked McCall what fans should look for in the exciting new flyweight division, his answer was simple, yet honest… As McCall firmly stated “Me!”

Well there you have it everyone, I hope this slight look inside the UFC’s newest division provided some sort of interest to make you tune in. I promise you won’t be disappointed, because the “little guys” fight just as hard as anyone pound for pound. Stay tuned for more, as my next piece on flyweights will feature the breakdown of the Johnson-McCall II match-up.

The trilogy for Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz has been put on hold! The champion Cruz, who is a coach on this season of

“The Ultimate Fighter: Live” has torn his ACL and has been forced out of the bout. Just what does this mean for Faber? Well, all signs point to two fights…Renan Barao or Michael McDonald vs Urijah Faber but we can only speculate at this point.

Now this is hypothetical, as it’s currently unknown if Faber will even take a fight or wait for Cruz. But let’s look at the current situation.

UFC 148 takes place July 7, 2012 in Las Vegas. Cruz and Faber was expected to headline the event, but venue and date issues forced the move of Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II from Brazil to the main event of UFC 148. This bumps Faber out of the main event and puts him in the co-main slot, a perfect place on the card for Faber to face Barao or McDonald and still provide us with a high-quality/ high-profile fight.

First let us look at Renan Barao. Barao and Faber is a very intriguing fight because many already place Barao above Faber. The argument is solid as Barao holds an impressive 28-1-1 record, with that one loss being his first professional fight. On the ground, Barao may be the best in the division, as 13 of his 28 victories have come by submission. Since fighting under the Zuffa banner, Barao is 5-0 (3-0 UFC, 2-0 WEC) including notable wins over Cole Escovedo, Brad Pickett, and Scott Jorgenson. Barao is already expected to face Ivan Menjivar at UFC 148 for a possible #1 contender shot, so schedule wouldn’t conflict a bout with Faber. But now with Cruz’s injury, the possibilities of an eliminator fight is right there. But then again, there is a second eliminator bout that could take place as well. That bout is Urijah Faber vs Michael McDonald.

Michael McDonald is a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but for some reason he would rather showcase his dynamite fist instead, as he did most recently against Miguel Torres. McDonald holds an impressive 15-1 record, his lone loss was to Cole Escovedo which he avenged by KO. His monster KO wins over Alex Soto and Miguel Torres has made him all the talk of the bantamweight division in recent months as well, making him a notable draw and a contender for a title shot. Both McDonald and Barao have arguments for facing Faber, and both fighters have a lot to gain from such a high profile fight. But again is Faber willing?

Faber’s position is interesting, a new opponent would be something many fans would welcome as trilogies are starting to become quite common in MMA. Both Barao and McDonald are fresh credible opponents that Faber would eventually have to face should he become champion regardless. What this means, is an eliminator bout would still benefit him greatly if victorious. Faber was off to a blazing MMA start going 21-1 to start his career, but after his 2008 fight with Jens Pulver, Faber only posted a 2-3 record at featherweight, prompting Faber to return to bantamweight where he is since 3-1. The ball is in Faber’s court however, he doesn’t need to fight either Barao or McDonald and can simply wait it out for Cruz to return, but as we have learned in this day and age in MMA, the interim title or interim #1 contender bout seems more logical than waiting it out.

This event has yet to take full shape, but 3 huge fights have been announced for the event already. The three fights announced are Ben Rothwell vs Travis Browne, Brian Stann vs a buzzsaw in Hector Lombard who will be making his UFC debut, and a huge light heavyweight tilt between former champion Lyoto Machida and TUF season 8 winner Ryan Bader.

Let’s take a look at these 3 fights in further detail shall we?

Ben Rothwell-Travis Browne

Let us start with Ben Rothwell and Travis Browne, both of these hard hitting heavyweights are coming off impressive first round stoppage victories and are serious contenders in moving up the heavyweight rankings. Browne is considered to be a top 10 heavyweight by many, and the argument is solid. His MMA record stands at 13-0-1 with 11 of those wins coming by stoppage, 9 in the first round, and 2 in under 10 seconds. Since entering the UFC, Browne has a record of 4-0-1 and has become one to watch within the UFC heavyweight division. Browne impressed in his last outing against Chad Griggs, which Browne won in highlight fashion. Browne landed a switch flying knee on Griggs, flooring him, then he took the mount and finished Griggs with an arm triangle choke. But, facing Ben Rothwell is no walk in the park for anyone as longtime fight fans have learned.

Ben Rothwell holds an impressive MMA record of 32-8 with 29 stoppage victories. Since dominating the IFL and coming to the UFC, Rothwell is just 2-2. One of those losses however, came by a controversial Steve Mazzagatti stoppage against Cain Velasquez at UFC 104. Ben Rothwell has been looking to make his presence known and did so against Brendan Schaub at UFC 145 when he won “Knockout of the Night”.

I expect this fight this end in a stoppage, in fact, I almost guarantee it. Ben Rothwell has a granite chin and TONS of heart and power, but Browne has an impressive ground game and his striking isn’t awful by any means and is ever improving. I expect Browne to be more aggressive in this fight than in previous, but this plays into Rothwell’s favor, if Rothwell can force Browne to make a mistake, the more experienced Rothwell will take this fight.

Brian Stann-Hector Lombard

The UFC recently acquired Bellator superstar Hector Lombard, one of the biggest names not under the ZUFFA banner. Lombard is arguably one of the best middleweights in the entire sport and holds one of the most impressive records to back it up at 31-2-1. Of his 31 wins, 24 have been finished, 17 have come by KO(Including one in 5 seconds, although the records say 6), and 7 by submission victory. Lombard is looking to cement himself amongst the UFC middleweight division’s elite and his debut is a real test. Lombard hasn’t lost in 24 fights, in fact, Lombard’s only two losses came in 2006 in Pride, to Gegard Mousasi and Akihiro Gono by decision. But his opponent, Brian Stann, is in possession of a right hand that could derail all of this with one punch.

Stann dominated Alessio Sakara in his first outing since losing to Chael Sonnen at UFC 136. Prior to this loss however, Stann was on a three fight winning streak, including a Fight of the Night submission win over Mike Massenzio in August 2010, followed by high-profile TKO wins over Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago. However, Chael Sonnen exposed a series of flaws in Stann’s ground game during their encounter, I’m not sure Stann’s had enough time to make the necessary adjustments for this bout. Lombard is a 4th degree black belt in judo as well as a world-class Olympic judoka, and Stann may find himself in trouble if he can’t avoid the clinch.

If Lombard respects Stann’s power and utilizes a smart game plan, he should be victorious in his UFC debut. However, if he decides to trade with Stann and showcase his striking, it could be a short night for the former Bellator standout if he should get caught.

Lyoto Machida-Ryan Bader

When Ryan Bader dominated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 144 only one fight made sense to me for the season 8 Ultimate Fighter winner, Lyoto Machida. Dana White after many annoying tweets from me, finally shut me up and announced this bout. Why do I find this fight important? Let’s take a look.

Stylistically this is a match-up that is very intriguing, as Machida is the ultimate riddle in MMA(not named Jon Jones) and Ryan Bader is a powerhouse wrestler who could pose problems if he could get “the Dragon” to the mat which many have failed to do. Another reason is, the loser of this fight will be sent to the back of the light heavyweight division as far as title contenders go. Machida is coming off a submission loss to Jon Jones, his third defeat in four previous outings including a lackluster decision to Quinton Jackson and TKO to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. However, these stumbles are the only three of Machida’s career with the karateka holding an overall record of 17-3 with notable wins over Rua, Randy Couture, Thiago Silva, Tito Ortiz, and Rashad Evans. Can the most “elusive” fighter in MMA get back on the winning side of things? Surely he can and he is heavily favored too, but do not write off Ryan Bader.

Like Machida, the 14-2 Bader’s only in-ring blemishes came against men who have held UFC titles (Jones/Ortiz). Since his shocking loss to Ortiz last July, Bader has racked up back-to-back victories. One was an impressive 77 second KO of Jason Brilz and his most recent being the previously mentioned domination of Quinton Jackson at UFC 144.

There has been no word on the main event of this event, but Machida and Bader could very well be it. Stayed tuned for details regarding this incredible FREE card coming this August.

Both guys are known for having lights out power, they throw deadly accurate strikes that crumble their opponents. Brian Stann (12-4) has 9 T(KO) wins and Hector Lombard (32-2-1-1) has 17 T(KO). That’s an average of 60% of the two fighters wins ending in a vicious mess. The fight isn’t for four months, but here is an early breakdown.

Head – Both fighters are methodic, and they both can be a hell of a counter striker. They both have great game plans coming into fights. So this has to be a push.

Hands – Again both fighters are very dominant with their strikes. With 26 T(KO)s between them we know what they like to do. I have to give the edge to Lombard, but its very close.

Kicks – Neither guys really throws them so this is a n/a. With that being said, we may see one of them put some kicks in their game plan to throw the other off.

Chin – With only one KO loss in 52 fights combined, neither of these guys has a problem with a chin. So once again a push

Grappling – Stann has struggled against grapplers, especially ones with a wrestling background. Lombard has a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu and a fourth degree black belt in judo, so Hector has the edge, even though it’s not the typical grappling Stann struggles against.

Experience – Don’t let the numbers fool you, Hector may have more fights, but there are two reasons Stann has the edge in experience. One is that Stann has fought the tougher opponents, and two is that he already has been through the UFC experience.

Camps – Hector fights out of Coconut Creek Florida’s American Top Team, and Stann fights out of JacksonMMA. While both have great fighters to work with, I really feel Stann has more elite athletes to prepare. Edge goes to Stann.

So after seven categories my breakdown has it Stann 2 Lombard 2 Push 2 and one n/a. Basically what this should tell you is that this fight will be very close, and both fighters can end it in the blink of an eye.

Now that the best Middleweight outside of the outside the organization, is now signed with the UFC, the question is who will he fight? Better yet, can Hector Lombard compete with the UFC’s best? Hector is 31-2-1-1 and hasn’t lost since 2006 against Gegard Mousasi (25 fights). Lombard fights out of American Top Team in Cocunut Creek Florida, and has a 4th degree black belt in judo and a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu under ATT coach Marcus Silveira. Lombard is known for his lightning quick strikes that come down like thunder. Hector hasn’t fought the best, but he has fought and finished who he could get. Lombard has 17 T(KO)s 7subs and 7 victories by way of decision. He has been a killing machine for many years, and now gets to showcase his skills in the UFC. Many are wondering if he has what it takes, while others are clambering for him to get the reigning king, Anderson Silva. Though I am a big fan of Hector I am one of those wondering how far up the ladder he can go. The Middleweight division is very stacked, and the top 10 guys are very game. Here is MY top 10 and how I feel Hector would do against them.

10. Chris Weidmann – Though Weidmann hasn’t been in the UFC for long, he has made a splash in the division, and has gotten himself a tough test in Mark Munoz. Weidmann would hold the wrestling advantage, but lacks any ability to stand with a striker like Hector. Weidmann would try to get close and take him down, but can he withstand a power punch from Lombard? I don’t think so, Hector wins hands down.

9. Yushin Okami – Another very good wrestler, with not that good of striking. I do believe his striking is better than Weidmann’s, but not much. Okami would be the bigger fighter, but wouldn’t be able to handle taking a hard shot while moving in for the TD. Another win for Hector.

8. Rousimar Palhares – The master of heel hook, is very very good on the ground, owning a black belt under Murilo Bustamante, but like the previous two, lacks in the striking department. Much like the others if Palhares can get into Lombard, he has a chance to take him down and work a submission. Yes Hector has a black belt, but as we all know, some belts are more black than others. Hector wins this fight as well.

7. Brian Stann – Now this is the first real striker to face Hector. This is actually the fight many are asking to see. Brian has concrete for hands as well as some of the nastiest ground and pound in the game. If the two of these guys step into the cage together, it will most certainly be a stand up war with someone falling down in a heep. I think this fight is almost a toss up, it is going to matter which fighter can impose his will and land the first big shot. 50/50

6. Alan Belcher – Belcher is a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu as well as a very good muay thai striker. Belcher may not hold the straight power of Lombard, but he has a variety of strikes and improves every time he steps into the octagon. One of the most well rounded fighters in the division, he truly can fight anywhere the fight goes. Belcher poses a tough fight for anyone, especially Hector. Belcher wins 60/40.

5. Vitor Belfort – It seems as though people keep forgetting about Belfort. Not much has been mentioned about him, even though he is always a top fighter. Belfort is a phenomenal striker with very quick hands. Belfort has won his last two fights by superb KO, and is scheduled to fight Wanderlei Silva this summer. If I could pick anyone to fight Hector Lombard, it would be Belfort, both guys have unreal power, and both guys are super fast. It truly would be a test of who’s chin could hold up the best. This is another toss up fight 50/50

4. Michael Bisping – Bisping has been near the top of the division for some time now. He is a well rounded fighter, that recently stepped up to the plate and gave Chael Sonnen all he could handle. Bisping has had a tough time with strikers in the past, of his four losses, three of them are to big big strikers. Would we see the same thing against Hector, or could Bisping out land him and point his way to victory? 70/30 for Hector.

3. Mark Munoz – Mark Munoz is a big striker with super quick hands, and has some of the best wrestling in the division. Mark has been on a tear since moving down to MW, winning 7 of his 8 bouts in the division. Mark can fight anywhere and can end his opponents night very fast. I think Mark’s speed and wrestling would give Hector fits, and he would wear him down. 70/30 Mark.

2. Chael Sonnen – Love him or hate him, you can not disputed how good he is in the octagon. Sonnen is the best wrestler in the division, and possibly the UFC. He has an iron chin, with decent striking skills. The only thing that would have made him unstoppable would be if he took brazilian jiu jitsu serious. If he knew how to defend a few moves, it would be over. Sonnen would take the big shots from Hector and keep coming, scoring TD after TD, while grinding out a victory. Sonnen 80/20

1. Anderson Silva – The king of the Middleweight division has only been man handled once in his entire career. The man has not lost while in the UFC, and 12 of his 14 fights have been finishes. Silva is a complete striker with a black belt in judo, brazilian jiu jitsu, and taekwando, as well as a yellow belt in capoeria. There isn’t a single place in the cage that Anderson cant dominate his opponent. Hector has the power edge, but we have seen Anderson take some big shots and not be phased, so Anderson would probably end this like most other fights. Anderson has the edge 80/20.

Don’t get me wrong, in any of these fights, Hector has the power to finish just about anyone. Its the other parts of the game that he may not do well with. Even without a fight I would put Hector in the top ten. He is most certainly good enough to be the 5th or 6th best in the division, maybe even more. Hopefully we don’t have to wait long to find out.

The UFC has 7 champions, with one in limbo. Some have held the title for some time, while others are defending for the first time. I felt it would be fun to talk shop on who will remain champion and who may take the strap in which division. So here is the breakdown on who will rule the roost.

We will start with the smallest division, the Flyweights. This is the division that is in limbo right now. About a month ago the UFC had a four man tourny with Joseph Benavidez, Ian McCall, Yasuhiro Urushitani, and Demetrious Johnson. Benavidez made short work of his opponent, but the McCall/Johnson fight was called a draw so they will be having a rematch. I said from the beginning that I thought McCall would be the first champion, and I still believe it. McCall is the best of this new division, and will prove it with a few title defenses.

Next up is the bantamweight division. This is a tough division to call for me. I really feel Dominick Cruz is the best champion in the UFC. He is a puzzle that hasn’t been figured out yet. The next challenger for Dom will probably be Brad Pickett. I am a huge Pickett fan but does he have enough to dethrone the champ? If anyone can it will be Brad.

The featherweight division is really tough. It’s not a stacked tough, but it has a ton of young stars. The reigning champ is Jose Aldo. Aldo is going to be the champ for quite some time, unless he decides to move up in weight. I’m not saying he should or needs to just if he wants tougher competition, the move would be smart. Next up for Aldo is more than likely Eric Koch. Koch is a tough fighter, that is fun to watch, but I really don’t believe he is Aldo ready. The only 2 fighters that would stand a chance against Aldo would be Chan-Sung Jung/Dustin Poirier. Either of these two fighters will give Aldo a run for his money.

This next division is arguably the most stacked division in the UFC, or any org. for that matter. The lightweight division has a new champion in Ben Henderson, who recently beat Frankie Edgar. It has been recently stated by Dana White that these two will get a rematch, so we know Edgar is the next one for Henderson. Frankie is a tough fighter who is always game in any fight. In some people’s eyes Ben had it fairly easy, but Frankie is never counted out until the final bell. The next contenders will either be Jim Miller or Nate Diaz. These two fight in less than a week to find out who will get the next crack at the 155 strap. With others like Grey Maynard, Anthony Pettis, Clay Guida, and others waiting in the wing, this division will more than likely see a change of the guard more often than others.

The welterweight division is just as stacked as the lightweight is. The champ, or former champ GSP has ruled the roost for for years, and no one has even come close to beating him. With his injury, we have a new champ, well interim champ in town. Carlos Condit is the next fighter to try to solve the puzzle that is GSP. The winner of that fight, will not be able to take a breathe with fighters like Jake Ellenberger, Johny Hendricks, and Rory McDonald waiting to get their hands on the strap. Can any of these fighters dethrone the champion? We will soon find out.

The Middleweight division is good just not as stacked as the previous two. Just like in the WW division Anderson Silva has ruled with an iron fist over the middleweights. He has even stepped out and defeated some light heavyweights. His last defense Silva took his opponent out in the second round. Silva is slated to fight Chael Sonnen in July. Sonnen took him to the brink or defeat, and Anderson survived. Can he do it again, or will we see a quick disposal of Chael? Even after that fight, Silva has a few other guys to worry about. Michael Bisping, Mark Munoz, and others are waiting in the wings to get a hold of Silva and his title.

The light heavyweight division is pretty sown up right now. Jon Jones has looked pretty fantastic and really only has one more tough competitor left. Jones will face Dan Henderson in his next defense. Henderson is a tough opponent for anyone. He has fantastic power, a granite chin and some of the best wrestling in the game. Can he get inside of Jones and land just one shot, because we all know it will only take one, on Jones?

The final division is the Heavies. This title has changed hands more times than I can count, and may not stop. Junior Dos Santos is the champion, and has a tough opponent in Frank Mir coming up. When it comes to the heavies, it only take one shot to finish a fight, and that is the main reason the champion is different almost every time. Heavy hands and even heavier bodies. This division is fun to watch, with guys like Cain Velasquez, Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson, and others. As long as we don’t see them fighting in Colorado its always fun to watch.

Here is how I see the title reign going down.

1. GSP 2. Dominick Cruz 3. Jon Jones 4. Anderson Silva 5. Jose Aldo 6. Ben Henderson 7. Junior Dos Santos

With in the next year we will have at least 3 new champions. I think Middleweight, Heavyweight, and Lightweight will see new champions. Possibly the featherweight as well, because I feel Aldo will move up.

Between staring at numbers (literally all day), I lose my mind around this time and actually forget what I am doing at work. From time to time, I have no work and find myself looking at random sites. Right now I stumbled upon a video game article and got me thinking about Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and how MMA would relate to it. So I decided, lets make our own circuit of who you would fight if there was a video game that was created. Starting from the bottom and moving up to the top of the circuit. I present “MMA Punch Out”

Little Mac and Doc & Frankie Edgar and Cecil Peoples

I could probably let Mike Tyson be himself, but Rampage fits the bill of closely looking like Mike Tyson. But there you go, based on looks (and obviously not talent) a short run down of who would be who if they ever made a game called “MMA Punch-Out.” I would also assume there are other fighters that would look more like these characters than the ones I chose. If you think there is a better comparison let me know.

After hearing news several weeks ago that Alistair Overeem tested positive for a banned substance, I immediately knew that the fight was going to be cancelled. I don’t think I have ever seen a case where someone tested positive before a bout and was able to fight (if I am wrong, let me know). Just recently, Overeem released an official statement through his management via Authentic Sports. If you read this already then I posted this for myself to read since I am always late on news… Anyways, this is what Overeem had to say:

To my friends and fans,

I am deeply saddened to announce that on Friday, April 20, I respectfully withdrew from the May 26 event so that I can request a continuance until my situation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is resolved.

I cannot express how sorry I am to the Commission, Junior Dos Santos, the fans, the owners and employees of the UFC, my friends and family and anyone else who this has affected.

I absolutely do not believe in, nor do I use performance-enhancing drugs. I am a clean fighter and I will do whatever it takes to prove this to everyone.

Prior to the UFC 146 press conference in March, I aggravated an old rib injury on my left side. My doctor prescribed, and I accepted, an anti-inflammatory medication that was mixed with testosterone. I was completely unaware that testosterone was one of the ingredients in the medication. Although I was unaware, I do realize it is my job to know what I am putting into my body.

I respect the Nevada Commissioners and Executive Director Keith Kizer and what they are doing to keep the sport of mixed martial arts regulated and safe for athletes. I look forward to working with them in the days and weeks ahead.

Friends and fans, I ask for your patience as I work through this matter. Please support me. I promise to return to the Octagon soon.
